"The SENCo qualification tells you the law but that’s it really. A lot of the training you can get for SEN tends to be about understanding a specific diagnosis, rather than a framework that you can apply to all assessments like the one in this programme. It's quite rare to find that. There comes a point when you’ve done so much training, reading, assessments and you still don’t know what is going on. In terms of local authority provision there is no other support so sometimes you are at a dead end. This programme was even more helpful that I expected. I was able to apply the framework while speaking anonymously about children in my setting. I am more systematic in my assessments, plus the IFF is helpful when communicating with other people. I can sit down with a concerned teacher or parent and have a systematic, productive conversation. I can connect the different factors and the IFF also helps me think about what I might have been missing."
